Upgrading might also depend on the connectivity of any peripherals you already own: interfaces, MIDI equipment, etc, and also necessitate the purchase of and external hub to help connect more that two Thunderbolt 4 or 2 USB devices. Though apps running Rosetta run as fast or faster than on the old Intel chip Macs. ![]() I know with music software they tend to be more cautious & take a longer development time to take on a new OS or hardware compatibility. Just make sure your software is a universal binary that will run M1 native, as well as any music or video plugins you might be using. I know Macs can last a long time, but the new M1 Minis are worth the upgrade. They even did the comparison with an external eGPU and the M1 did better or than the Intel Mini even with an external eGPU for video editing, rendering & music. You'd be amazed at the side by side comparisons of a maxed 2018 i7 against the BTO I got. It's amazingly fast, even boot up is quicker. Did an Apple trade in before the purchase & got an M1 Mini w/ Core CPU and 8-Core GPU, 16GB Memory, 1TB SSD, Gigabit Ethernet & am very happy I did. I just traded up from maxed out 2018 i7 Mac Mini w/ 64GB of RAM. ![]()
